The Gold Guys Present: Teddy’s Training Tips

Last week the Gold Guys had me introduce a new feature on Fridays. They wanted me to share special triathlon training tips from Teddy. Teddy is more than just a cute puppy, he’s a clever little guy and most triathletes could learn a thing or two from him.

Last week Teddy told you all about his tried and true techniques for optimal recovery. If you missed it, go back and review.

This week Teddy is here to talk to you about focus. Teddy lives his life day to day, moment to moment. He is absolutely focused on one thing at a time. When he’s training, is he thinking about stressful stuff from work? No. Is he thinking about the chores he has to take care of after training? No. Is worried about his TSS score? Absolutely not, he has a sensitive nose so he can smell bullshit from a mile away. On game day Teddy isn’t looking back worrying if he prepared enough. He isn’t thinking ahead to the next race. He’s totally engaged.

Teddy wants you to be focused on what you’re doing. Teddy cares about doing his best today. I completely concur with Teddy. This year more than ever before I’ve seen the importance of being focused and completely engaged during training.

Now lets take a look at Teddy being completely focused during a variety of his activities:

Unbroken concentration on a toy.

Laser focused on making his first snowman.

Teddy on watch waiting for me to get home. No distractions for this lookout.

Teddy entirely engaged in the process of licking a sleevecicle.

Teddy 100% focused on a banana. He is oddly interested in fruit.

See you tomorrow at the Falls Duathlon!
